Hi there 👋,
Junior bankers at Goldman Sachs are complaining about CEO David Solomon's return-to-office mandate.
Some bankers took to online message boards to express their outrage about being asked to go back into the office five days a week. 5 days! Outrageous.
Goldman insist that bringing people together is crucial to building better relationships and for career development. (In case you were wondering, starting salaries for first year analysts are ~$110,000 per annum).

Five Investment Principles
We’re not going to lie.
This is a lengthy essay. It’s also recommended reading if you want to form clear objectives and minimize uncertainty when building your investment portfolio.
The highlights:
Professor Kenneth R. French focuses on five concepts that drive his approach to portfolio design.
Risk is uncertainty about lifetime consumption: Most investors understand that the expected return on an investment is essentially the best guess of what the return will be. There is a lot more confusion about risk.
The average dollar invested holds the market: Simple arithmetic then says the average dollar invested holds the global market portfolio. And if we weight by investment wealth, so Bill Gates gets more weight than I do, the average investor also holds the global market.
Chance dominates realized returns: Over reasonable investment horizons – three, five, ten, even 20 years – realized returns are typically dominated by the unexpected component and inferences from realized returns are often false positives.
Active investing is a negative sum game: The average dollar invested actively loses to a passive investment in the value-weight market portfolio.
Most investors should diversify their portfolios: The goal is not to reduce volatility of any particular investment. It is to reduce the uncertainty about lifetime consumption.
